METABOLIC BALANCE®
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Metabolic Balance?
Metabolic Balance® is a personalised nutrition program developed in Germany by Dr. Wolf Funfack. Based on your individual blood values and medical history, it works to rebalance your metabolism using whole foods to reduce inflammation, support weight regulation, correct nutrient imbalances, and improve overall health—naturally!
As part of the program, you’ll receive a personalised guide that you can always refer back to whenever you need guidance or support, making it a resource for long-term wellness beyond the initial program.

How can a personalised plan be created from my blood values?
The programme includes a comprehensive blood test, to check metabolic health, inflammatory markers, glucose levels, thyroid health, cardiac markers, pancreatic and liver enzymes, and iron.
The programme also takes into account:
- Your current weight, measurements, medical history
-
Existing conditions and medications
-
Food dislikes, allergies, and intolerances
-
Lifestyle habits
From this information, imbalances that affect your metabolism can be identified and a personalised food plan can be created.

How much weight will I lose?
Weight loss progress varies from person to person, depending on factors such as age, gender, and how much weight needs to be lost. Generally, men tend to see results more quickly than women.
A typical rate of weight loss is about one kilogram per week, though this may be higher at the beginning and naturally slow down as you near your goal. If you are vegetarian, weight can come off more slowly, but the program is still effective.
Rather than focusing on how fast the weight comes off, the key is to maintain consistent progress, ensure good hydration, and stay on track with the programme toward reaching your target weight. Many participants find that as they progress through the programme, reduced inflammation in their bodies not only supports overall well-being but also provides additional motivation to stay consistent.
Is Metabolic Balance for everyone?
-
Metabolic Balance® is suitable for children 8 years and older.
-
It caters for vegetarian diets, as long as you eat at least one kind of animal protein.
-
The programme also caters to allergies, dislikes, and food intolerances.
-
Metabolic Balance® is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It can be started after weaning has concluded.
-
In some cases, if certain blood markers fall far outside the normal reference ranges, an additional review may be required before the programme can be approved.

Will I always need to eat this way?
No. Metabolic Balance® is a 3–4 month program* built around a personalised, whole-food nutrition plan that promotes a balanced intake of proteins, healthy fats, and carbohydrates with a low glycaemic load. At its core are the 8 Core Rules, which aim to regulate metabolism, enhance insulin sensitivity, and support long-term wellbeing.

During the program, you’ll develop a clearer understanding of how your body reacts to different foods.

In the lifestyle phase, you can enjoy occasional flexible or “treat” meals, allowing for social occasions and greater flexibility without compromising your progress.

A major goal of Metabolic Balance® is to strengthen your connection between food and body—helping you recognise which foods truly nourish you and which may be best to limit.

After completing the structured phases, you’re encouraged to return to a diverse, balanced diet, using what you’ve learned to maintain your results and support your long-term health.

*For those needing to lose a considerable amount of weight, the programme could take longer.
Does health insurance cover the cost for Metabolic Balance?
-
In Switzerland, some supplementary insurance packages will contribute to the cost of Metabolic Balance®, although this is likely only to be a small amount.

Can I do Metabolic Balance while working and with a family?
Yes, many Metabolic Balance® participants find it easy to incorporate the programme into their everyday lives. The meal plans focus on whole, natural foods — including proteins, vegetables, fruits, and moderate portions of carbohydrates — making them suitable for the whole family. While some side dishes, sauces, or desserts may not be part of your specific plan, others can still enjoy them alongside you.
After completing the initial, more structured phase of the programme, you can look forward to one weekly “Treat Meal,” where you may enjoy your preferred foods and drinks in moderation.
For those with office jobs, meals can be prepared in advance and stored in reusable containers. Many workplace canteens offer adaptable meal options, even Metabolic Balance® ones, and most restaurants now feature choices including “fitness salads” or grilled proteins with vegetables that align well with the programme.
During the early stages, it’s important to weigh your protein, fruit, and vegetable portions to ensure proper combinations and portion sizes — so having a small kitchen scale on hand is recommended.
How will I feel during the programme?
-
In the early weeks of the Metabolic Balance® programme, your body experiences important metabolic changes as it begins to rely more on fat for energy. During this adjustment period, you may notice temporary effects such as tiredness, lower energy, or slight dizziness. These reactions are normal and part of your body’s natural adaptation process. To ease the transition, make sure to get enough rest, stay properly hydrated, and avoid placing too much physical or mental strain on yourself.

Can I follow the Metabolic Balance program while taking medications?
Yes, Metabolic Balance® can safely be taken while on a number of medications and in the care of a medical provider. This programme can help to reduce inflammation and support increased nutrient diversity, improved metabolism, and blood sugar balance to improve overall, longterm metabolic health.

Can I exercise on the programme?
-
During the programme’s initial phase, it’s recommended to keep physical activity gentle to give your body time to adjust. Light walks or stretching are ideal choices.
-
Once the first few weeks have passed and your energy levels stabilise, you can gradually add moderate exercise. Avoid pushing yourself too hard, as intense workouts can raise cortisol levels, trigger sugar release, and potentially slow your progress.
-
Introducing strength training later in the programme can be especially helpful, as it builds muscle and boosts your resting metabolic rate.
-
The main goal is to engage in movement that supports your metabolism rather than placing extra stress on it.
